Cowboys and District Attorneys

Last week, Barefoot on the Town attended the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver’s Gates Camp Breakfast at the Pepsi Center. More than 300 people were up bright and early to learn more about the camp, and hear from keynote speaker James Owen. Don’t know who James Owen is? The author and former Denverite coined the phrase “Cowboy Ethics” and frequently speaks about the relevance of Old West values – like honor, loyalty and courage.

We spotted lawyers in the crowd from  Brownstein Hyatt Farber SchreckGreenberg Traurig, Husch Blackwell, Minor & Brown and Perkins Coie. We were most excited to see Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey and his wife Maggie. Mitch and Maggie are long-time supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs.

By all accounts, the breakfast was a success. The event raised more than $128,000 for Gates Camp – a summer camp that offers Boys & Girls Club members a chance to get out of the city and enjoy the Colorado wilderness. Exciting news for 2012 – Gates Camp will add an additional week onto its summer program, allowing them to serve 70 additional kids.
