Barefoot Out of Town

Last week, Barefoot on the Town traveled to Louisville, KY for a presentation to the Legal Marketing Association’s Kentucky Chapter. We titled our presentation “Be Memorable, Be Interesting: Building a strong personal brand to support business development,” focused on strategies and tactics to help lawyers build strong personal brands through the activities they engage in outside of the office – from pro bono work and nonprofit service, to personal hobbies and publicly attended events. Our session also included tips for helping legal marketers build successful and cohesive personality-driven marketing campaigns. What we enjoyed most about presenting to the group of 30 legal marketers, consultants and lawyers was the discussion around coaching lawyers to better answer the question “tell me about yourself.”

Barefoot on the Town’s Sarah Hogan and Cori Plotkin with Stites & Harbison’s Mari-Elise Taube.

While in Louisville, we also attended Stites & Harbison’s Thirsty Thursdays happy hour. The firm hosts a monthly happy hour/educational session on various legal topics. Last week’s event was on intellectual property in the age of cloud computing. We were impressed by Mari-Elise Taube and Jeffrey Haeberlin who co-presented. The duo had a down-to-earth approach, explaining everything from what the “cloud” actually is, to the basics of protecting your assets. And we enjoyed the southern hospitality and cocktails the firm provided. A big shout-out to Linda McGinity Jackson, the firm’s Client Development Manager, for hosting us. Linda’s sunny disposition and mind for strategy clearly make her one of the firm’s best assets.
